What top should I wear with denim shorts if I want to show the belt?

I want to wear dark wash denim shorts with a cute, smallish brown belt-that SHOWS. So I've seen some people wear stomach-revealing rompers or something but it's not really my style...and people tuck in tanks/camis/tees to the shorts, but I think that looks kinda awkward. I'm okay with it though...if anyone can give me outfit suggestions. Thanks!
