Is the dark happiness from deep cynicism a good or a bad thing?

A quote of mine: "Happiness is the quest of those unfortunate people who have not used misery to their advantage." I believe (although the concept of "belief" will stop you dead in your tracks and you will never go anywhere) that when you see life through darkness it is easier to see light and clarity when it appears before you. If you see life through light you will never know all the beautiful things that darkness can hold. Therefore, I see dark happiness and deep cynicism as a good thing. There's more to this as you can well imagine.
