Why do people allow themselves to be deluded by religion?

First off, despite what the title implies, I am actually religious and I consider myself as a Christian... kinda. In all seriousness, I have no problem with accepting the idea that a creator had a role in the creation of our universe, but I highly doubt he is anything like our religions (especially Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) have described him. Enough about my beliefs though, let's get to the main point. I can't believe there are still people that mindlessly cling to every word that the Bible says instead of thinking for themselves. I'm tired of coming across those Christians who spew narrow-minded and ignorant ideals because they have deluded themselves into believing everything stated in some ancient book is 100% HISTORICALLY TRUE. These people ignore rational ideas and scientific facts just because the Bible doesn't support such ideas. Its funny how they shelter themselves from the real world and don't take full advantage of the life they have been given.
